West Haven Elementary School Health Fair

Today I went to the West Haven Elementary School Health Fair with Julie and Tori. We took the schools big puppets down and taught kids how to brush and floss. The puppet that squirted water at the kids was a big hit. We kept having them come back to get "spit on" by the puppet or trick their friends. It was a lot of fun and a good way to remember that teaching really is the most important part of a hygienists job!

Midtown Dental Screenings!

Okay so it was time for the Midtown Dental Screenings again this year. Last year it was one of my favorite things I had the opportunity to do. It throws you right in the middle of everything and forces you to practice what you have learned. Because of the variety of patients you get to see a lot of different things and see what you can remember.
Highlights of this year:
1. Working with Kailene on day one. I got to ask her every question I could think of to better prepare me for next year. It gives me some hope that everything will work out somehow when I talk to someone who has already finished! Also she is a super nice person and fun to chat with.
2. Getting to see all the girls again! I can't believe how much I already miss them. It's been a month and I'm already getting all sappy!
3. Working with Maren all day the second day. She is possibly one of my favorite people on the planet and it totally made the eight hour day a ton easier to have her there.
4. Realizing just how horrible at Spanish I am. I think it made some of the Spanish women a lot more relaxed when we gave them a good laugh at our attempts though! Bien! And it happened a lot as 90% of the people we saw only spoke Spanish. Thank you translators!
5. Practicing everything. I finally feel comfortable with feeling for caries. Nothing like learning by doing.
6. Getting all excited for next year.
